About Me

My name is Tosha Thomas, I am 27 years old. I live in Foley, Alabama with my family. I teach the 3 year old preschool class at our church preschool during the week. I love my job, my students get excited over anything. I also love that I work where my children go to preschool.

I graduated from the University of South Alabama in the Fall of 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I am taking EDM 310 and am taking an Art for Elementary Teachers class in the Spring to keep my CEU's up to date for my teaching certificate.

I have taught 2nd grade in a Christian school and Kindergarten in a public school. I learned a lot from both teaching experiences. I continue to learn from my 3 year olds everyday. I am constistant with my rules and what I expect from my students.

When my children reach school age, I plan to return to teaching. I really want to teach 5th grade Math, Science, and Social Studies. These are my favorite subjects, they interest me and I know students would feel my passion when teaching them.

My Teaching Philosophy

I am a teacher that wants to inspire others to want to learn. I want my passion about Math, Science, and Social Studies to shine through to my students. I had such wonderful experiences with teachers growing up that I want my students to feel the same way about me and about learning. I want my students to have fun and learn while doing so. I think technology is a great resource for students to use while learning and having fun.

I believe in fairness. My students know that what I say, I will do. From the sweetest, quietest child to the most disruptive, they can depend on me following through with the rules.

I think organization and preparation can take me a long way in class. This helps with classroom management and just enjoying class.

Technologically Literate Teacher

I am currently taking EDM 310, a technology class for educators. I have learned so much in this class to help me be a technologically literate teacher.

I have learned how to use the following Internet's resources:
Wikipedia, Google Earth, Blogging, iTunes, Google Docs, ALEX, Twitter, You Tube, Podcasting, Vodcasting, Personal Learning Network, Web Instructional Unit, and a Professional Blog.

As you can see from above, we have covered a wide range of topics, from doing so I feel much more comfortable in using technology in the classroom.

I feel that it is so important for teachers to stay updated on with new technology. We are moving rapidly to a technology world. I thinkg this can be very beneficial in teaching as long as we keep a balance with basic, healthy activities.

Blogging in the Classroom

From EDM 310, I have found blogging to be the most useful tool. I would have a class blog for my students to get there homework from and to communicate with them about class assignments. They would be able to communicate with each other as well about class assignments and comment on their classmates post. The students' parents would also have access to communicate with me and their child. Blogging is the most exciting overall to use in my class for Math, Science, and Social Studies.

iTunes in the Classroom

I found iTunes especially helpful as well in my class. I would use iTunes for my students in helping them with their class assignments. Students can look anything up and find podcast or vodcast. They can also make their own for class assignments. This type of assignment can really help the students use technology effectively and work as groups.
